Program Note

‘Mythical Forest’ illustrates a wondrous journey through ‘The Forest of Iuvenis’. Each of the piece's sections explore their own unique aspects of the Forest, with key changes representing major changes in the Forest environment. The main theme of the piece utilises non diatonic chords to convey a sense of magic and wonder. This is mostly felt in the string section near the beginning of the piece and then handed off to the woodwinds. The brass section represents the most fascinating and majestic aspects of the Forest and the discovery of ‘The Great Tree’ found in its centre.
