Program Note
‘Flower Bloom’ illustrates the struggles of a flower fighting its way through different stages of its life. As the flower opens, so too does the main theme of the piece. From our perspective, a caterpillar crawling on a leaf is insignificant, but to a flower trying to grow it’s a life threatening experience. At times, the brass section provides an antagonist presence, while at others it aids in the development of the flower in conjunction with the percussion section. On the other hand, the woodwinds support the flower with the string section providing the backbone for the flower to develop upon.
